Ringworm (Dermatophyte/Tinea)

One of my friend called me and said that he has ringworm.He tried many Over The Counter (medicines which you get without a Doctor's prescription) creams. Initially it worked out. But then he felt that the condition was worsening and couldn't concentrate on his day to day activities. He was also embarrassed about itching in his workplace. 

Well for me this is the usual presentation!

At Least 90% of people have taken their medicines on their own without a dermatologist consultation. 

The medicines which they take over the counter(OTC), usually,  is a cocktail of drugs, which lands you in a false belief that one or the other drug will cure the condition. Infact their main ingredient is steroids.

Okay... why should steroids not be used in ring worm???

The concept is simple. Ringworm is a fungal infection. Steroids decrease the immunity. So it makes way for the fungus to grow in a luxurious way.
